Cote d'Ivoire
URC’s work reached Côte d'Ivoire for the first time in 1981. During that time, our non-profit affiliate, the Center for Human Services (CHS), undertook multi-country research to guide developing countries in strengthening their primary health care services.
CHS pioneered the development of a practical, systematic approach to operations research on critical issues facing primary health care services in developing countries. The 10-year project investigated, in partnership with health care providers and their managers in developing countries, the use of community health workers, community mobilization, community financing of primary health services, and community-based commodity distribution. Since 1981, our work has included several USAID-funded projects supporting HIV/AIDS programs and the overall objective of fostering improvements in a range of health care processes.
