Quality Improvement Specialist, USAID Health Care Improvement Project

  • Location: Bethesda, MD
  • Salary: Commensurate with senior level experience and qualifications (Exempt)
Job Description

The Health Care Improvement Project (HCI) is a global health program funded by USAID and implemented by University Research Co., LLC and is dedicated to improving health, populations and nutrition services through technical support to service delivery institutions, Ministries of Health, USAID missions, and cooperating agencies.

The Quality Improvement Specialist will work in collaboration with headquarters and host-country colleagues worldwide in designing, implementing, monitoring and providing technical assistance to improve the health care provided to people living with HIV, TB and other health problems. The primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Working with health care facilities to design systems to collect data on the quality of care provided to patients with HIV
  • Working with health care facilities to improve the quality of care provided to patients with HIV
  • Writing, presenting and disseminating results of field activities and lessons learned, including to peer reviewed journals, professional meetings, donor organizations, and developing country health services
  • Participating actively in corporate business development activities.
Minimum Qualifications

Candidates should bring a minimum of three years experience working in health programs with at least one year of experience providing technical assistance in health services in developing countries, preferably in Africa.  Strong problem solving skills and quantitative abilities are essential as are good interpersonal skills.  Knowledge of quality improvement and health systems are preferred.  A graduate degree in public health or a similar field is required.  Proven skills in preparing publishable materials, documenting work and testing health services interventions is essential.  The applicant must be fluent in English and is preferably fluent in French or Spanish.  Applicants must be able and willing to travel 30-40% time in developing countries on short-term assignments. A track record of being a team player with flexibility to adapt to changing work conditions is essential.
