Senior Strategic Leader & Technical Advisor for Malaria

University Research Co., LLC in Bethesda has been working on malaria through both bilateral and globally funded projects in eight countries in Africa and Asia. URC helps countries design malaria control program technical strategies to improve provider competency and increase compliance with protocols for malaria case management (including rapid diagnostics) and intermittent preventive therapy, increase demand and the effective use of insecticide treated bednets, and indoor residual spraying.  URC focuses on areas such as service integration, community-based strategies, laboratory strengthening, monitoring quality, and strengthening supervision. 

Job Description

Working with senior program managers, the Senior Strategic Leader & Technical Advisor for Malaria will provide vision and leadership to URC’s program activities addressing malaria. Specific activities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and oversee the design, development and implementation of ACT, IPT, LLIN and IRS within URC’s field programs
  • Work to grow URC participation in global malaria activities
  • Provide technical leadership for developing training and monitoring tools, and new approaches to malaria control and prevention
  • Participate in global malaria activities and meetings as a key representative of URC and communicate URC capabilities for the purpose of developing partnerships and expanding URC’s knowledge and sharing our contributions
  • Work with National Malaria Control Programs and Ministries of Health to develop a collaborative approach to improve management and the quality of program interventions including improved monitoring systems   
Minimum Qualifications

Candidates should bring a minimum of ten years’ experience in planning, implementing and improving service delivery for malaria control activities (case management, IPT, LLIN/ITN and IRS). Clinical or advanced public health degree is required.  Language fluency in English and a second development language is preferred. Candidates must have a track record of being able to document field results in a timely manner, and of being a team player with flexibility to adapt to changing work conditions. Field experience in developing countries and some knowledge of USAID are required.  Position requires the ability and willingness to travel to developing countries at least 30% of the year.
