HCIP Staff Present on Campaign to Stop Underage Drinking at Social Marketing in Public Health Conference
URC staff from the Health Communications Initiative for the Prevention of Underage Alcohol Use (HCIP) presented a poster on Changing Underage Drinking Norms at the annual Social Marketing Conference on June 19, 2008, in Clearwater Beach, FL.
HCIP is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). URC serves as subcontractor to Macro International Inc. on the project.
The Social Marketing in Public Health Conference, now in its eighteenth year, is designed for public health professionals and health educators in a variety of settings, including CDC, state and local health departments, other public health agencies, and non-profit organizations. The Conference addressed key elements of the social marketing approach to illustrate how this method can be applied to a wide variety of public health topics.
URC’s Gail Dym and Payal Pandit presented the poster, “Changing Underage Drinking Norms: A Social Marketing Campaign.” The poster included information on the Start Talking Before They Start Drinking public education campaign designed for parents to talk to their children about underage drinking. The campaign provides facts and practical advice on how to maintain open communication and express a clear, consistent message about the consequences of underage drinking.
