Too Smart To Start web site earns Aesculapius Certificate of Merit

The Underage Drinking Prevention Education Initiatives (UDPEI) team received a 2009 Aesculapius Certificate of Merit from the Health Improvement Institute (HII) for the Too Smart To Start (TSTS) web site. The Aesculapius Award, named for the ancient Greek god of healing, recognizes outstanding organizations that provide health information to the public through web sites and other media. The award is intended to encourage excellence in health communications.

UDPEI is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. URC, as subcontractor to ICF Macro on UDPEI, supports SAMHSA’s national efforts to prevent underage alcohol use and plays a key role in ongoing maintenance of the site.

The TSTS Web site provides information for youth, families, educators, and communities to prevent and reduce underage alcohol use and its related problems in their communities. The site makes available materials designed to educate youth on the consequences of alcohol use and to support parents and adult caregivers as they participate in their children’s activities.

The site provides useful programs and strategies, downloadable print materials, interactive games and exercises, and other resources to support the various audiences in responding to the Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking.

This award is one of several UDPEI earned in 2009 (see http://www.urc-chs.com/news/news_Awards.html). The TSTS Web site has received multiple awards since its inception (see http://www.toosmarttostart.samhsa.gov/awards.aspx).
