URC Presents TB Work at International Lung Health Conference

URC had a significant presence at the 42nd Union World Conference on Lung Health in Lille, France, on October 26–30, 2011. Thirty-six URC participants—representing Bangladesh, Botswana, Cambodia, Georgia, Indonesia, Malawi, South Africa, Swaziland, Vietnam, and Bethesda headquarters—attended, with support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In addition, we had a booth with handouts, CDs, and booklets on our TB work. Two large banners on either side of the booth promoted the USAID TB CARE II project, now entering its second year, as well as the USAID TB South Africa Program, entering its third.

URC conducted several well-attended workshops, sessions, meetings, and poster presentations, including:

    • Coordinated by Dr. Refiloe Matji (TB CARE II Project Director and Vice President, URC, South Africa)

    • Presentations by Dr. Matji, Dr. Samson Haumba (URC, Swaziland), Dr. Hind Satti (PIH Lesotho), Dr. Claudio Marra (URC, South Africa), and Dr. Michael Rich (PIH)

  • Occupational Safety Session: USAID TB CARE II

    • Attendees included National TB Program staff from several high-burden countries, representatives from civil society and NGOs implementing TB programs and international donor agencies, researchers, infection control experts and implementers, and other health worker advocates.
