URC at the Union World Conference on Lung Health

URC is taking an active role in the 47th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Liverpool, UK from October 26th through October 29th, 2016. URC staff are attending from several countries across the globe, leading panel discussions, presenting symposia, and discussing posters.

The theme this year is "Confronting Resistance: Fundamentals to Innovations", which encompasses a number of critical areas for discussion ranging from the growing problem of resistance to existing TB drugs to the challenge presented by the powerful tobacco industry's resistance to efforts to control tobacco use.

Some of the major issues being addressed by URC staff include:

  • Special challenges of co-morbidities of TB, diabetes, and HIV
  • Multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB care
  • Sustainable scale up of interventions
  • Patient-centered Care
  • TB screening and isoniazid preventive therapy
  • Newborn and maternal complications
