Cambodia Malaria Prevention and Control Project
Client: United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
URC serves as prime contractor on this three-year contract awarded by USAID in October 2007. Under the contract, URC is providing technical assistance and support to the Cambodian National Malaria Control Program to improve diagnosis and treatment of malaria, and educate the community about malaria prevention, control and appropriate health seeking behaviors. Activities are taking place in four provinces in western Cambodia that are at high risk of multi-drug resistant malaria outbreaks.
URC Services
The URC project team is providing technical support to the Cambodian National Malaria Control Program to:
- Improve standards for quality assurance and quality control methods for malaria microscopy and rapid diagnostic tests.
- Train health workers to recognize and manage uncomplicated malaria, severe malaria, and malaria in pregnant women, children and mobile migrant populations.
- Improve drug management to prevent further anti-malarial resistance.
- Develop and disseminate materials on malaria treatment and rational drug use to the community in collaboration with local organizations.
- Partner with private sector providers to through a drug outlet accreditation system at the local level to promote the correct use of anti-malarial drugs, discourage the use of fake anti-malarial drugs, perform operational research, and other innovative approaches.
