Encouraging Policy-level Support for Reproductive Health and Family Planning

High-quality family planning and reproductive health services are essential to the health of women and their children. URC works at the national level with partners such as ministries of health (MOH) to encourage policy level support for family planning services, create an environment of support for women to seek contraception, and ensure availability of contraceptive supplies. At the service level, URC uses quality improvement approaches to build health providers’ capacity to provide effective services. This work guides providers in selecting quality indicators, assessing changes over time, and developing targeted checklists for family planning and reproductive health providers. URC programs involve communities, clients, health workers and managers in this process to ensure a comprehensive approach to service delivery, a sense of ownership on the part of service providers, and sustainability.

We worked with the government of Guatemala for over a decade to provide family planning services. Family planning services are now offered free at over 1200 health delivery points within the MOH´s network of services.
