Grenada
In recent years, the Ministry of Health in Grenada has moved primary health care to the top of its national agenda. Grenada has been host to one of URC’s largest projects, the Primary Health Care Operations Research Project (PRICOR). In 1981, URC’s non-profit affiliate, the Center for Human Services (CHS), launched PRICOR and undertook multi-country research to guide developing countries, including Grenada, in strengthening their primary health care services. CHS pioneered the development of a practical, systematic approach to operations research on critical issues facing primary health care services in developing countries. The project investigated, in partnership with health care providers and their managers in developing countries, the use of community health workers, community mobilization, community financing of primary health services, and community-based commodity distribution.
