Uruguay
When URC began working in Uruguay in 1981, our non-profit affiliate, the Center for Human Services (CHS) rolled out one of its most far-reaching initiatives, the Primary Health Care Operations Research Project (PRICOR). CHS pioneered the development of a practical, systematic approach to operations research on critical issues facing primary health care services in developing countries. The project investigated, in partnership with health care providers and their managers in developing countries the use of community health workers, community mobilization, community financing of primary health services, and community-based commodity distribution.
