CHS Partners with Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia to Provide Adult Education
The partnership will offer primary and secondary education for Spanish-speaking adults in New Jersey.
Under a new program offered by the Center for Human Services (CHS) and the Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia, Spanish-speaking adults will have an opportunity to complete their primary and secondary schooling at their own pace and at no cost. CHS will be the only registered organization in Cumberland County, New Jersey offering the Plaza Comunitaria Program services.
CHS, a not-for-profit affiliate of URC, is a community-based organization dedicated to improving the quality of and access to health, educational and social services for those most in need in the US and around the world.
CHS and the Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia celebrated the beginning of their new collaboration with a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 24. The Plaza Comunitaria Program was established in 2001 under the administration of Mexican President Vincente Fox.
The Mexican Consulate has partnered with the Mexican National Institute of Adult Education to offer training for instructors, student registration, and online testing. Upon completing the requirements, students will receive a certification by the Mexican Department of Education.
Since its inception, more than 400 Plaza Comunitaria Programs have been established in the U.S. The program serves as a compliment to CHS’ English as a Second Language classes. Training for the instructor for the Plaza Comunitaria Program will began this summer and classes are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2018.
