URC 2014 Photography Contest Winner - Jessica Ziegler
Jessica Ziegler, Knowledge Management Specialist for URC/Headquarters, submitted the winning photo in the "Photographer's Choice" category of URC's 2014 Photography Contest.
This photo captures the earnest and dedicated expression of a senior nurse who is attending to pregnant women at the Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital Antenatal Care Clinic. In the background, nursing students observe her work.
This scene is from the SUSTAIN Project in Uganda, where six percent of pregnant women receiving antenatal care (ANC) are HIV-infected. To reduce transmission risk, these women and their infants need both anti-retroviral (ARV) drugs and the appropriate care and support services to help them adopt risk-reducing behaviors. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, SUSTAIN supports the implementation of Option B-Plus interventions at 14 hospitals across Uganda, including Fort Portal, for the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV. Option B-Plus is a lifelong highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) for pregnant and lactating HIV-infected women and six weeks of preventive medication for their babies.
Congratulations to Jessica and the SUSTAIN team for their great work!
