Department of Defense HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (DHAPP)

Working to Achieve HIV Epidemic Control in Swaziland

URC is supporting the government of Swaziland to reduce the number of new HIV infections and other sexually transmitted infections among members of the Umbutfo Swaziland Defense Force (USDF), their families, and the civilian communities served by the USDF health services.

The program, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), is supporting the USDF to aggressively scale-up the military anti-retroviral therapy (ART) program to achieve the 90-90-90 goal and to reach epidemic control within the target population during the life of the project.

The project objectives are:

  • Aggressively scaling up HIV testing services to achieve the first 90 percent goal for military personnel;
  • Aggressively scaling up the military ART coverage to achieve the second and third 90 percent goals for HIV epidemic control;
  • Strengthening prevention services in the USDF;
  • Improving HIV clinical monitoring systems and military health systems; and
  • Strengthening the institutional capacity to lead planning, implementation, and monitor and evaluation of the HIV response in the USDF.
