Consolidated Adult Basic Skills and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education

The Challenge

Support New Jersey in building a stronger workforce to meet the needs of businesses in the state.

Overview and Objectives

Provided English literacy and civics education to foreign-born adult learners. Instruction focused on helping students learn in real-life contexts to ensure that they gain the necessary skills to compete in the workplace and exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

Project objectives were:

  • Provide instruction in two educational programs: English as a second language and integrated English literacy and civics
  • Recruit program participants through community outreach
  • Counsel students and assist them with developing individualized instructional plans, careers goals, and exploring personal interests and skills

Achievements

These efforts have been implemented through successive subcontracts (2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2019-2020) with the Vineland Public Schools’ Adult Education Program and the Salem County/Cumberland Adult Basic Services Consortium.
